Utility Support

Hardships happen and sometimes you need a little extra support paying your utility bills. Utility companies Duquesne Light, Columbia Gas, Peoples Gas, and PGH2O offer a number of programs to support residents. Review the offerings below to determine your next steps.

Duquesne Light

Duquesne Light offers several programs to help residents pay their electric bill. They also offer a free energy assessment service to help homeowners and renters reduce their energy use and save money on their electric bill.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Grants helps low-income households pay some energy costs associated with heating their home.Residents can contact 1-866-857-7095 or visit their website to review the federal income guidelines and learn more.

The Customer Assistance & Referral Evaluation Service (CARES) program is available to assist payment-challenged customers who are experience hardships, such as loss of income due to injury, illness or death of the primary wage earner. Residents can contact 1-888-393-7600 or visit their website to learn more and apply.

The Free Energy Assessment Program offers eligible Duquesne Light customers a free energy assessment that will to determine areas for cost savings.  To apply call 1-866-282-3147. Income eligibility requirements and additional information is available online.

 

Columbia Gas

Columbia Gas offers several programs to help residents pay their gas bills, including LIHEAP, CARES and an emergency repair program and a security deposit assistance fund. A description of each program is available online or by calling 1-800-537-7431. Columbia Gas offers an Energy Assistance hotline at 1-800-272-2714.

Peoples Gas

Peoples Gas offers several programs to help residents with paying their gas bill, including LIHEAP grants, a CustomerAssistance Program, an Emergency Repair Fund, a Dollar Energy Fund, Usage Reduction weatherization program and emergency rental and utility assistance. A description of each program and their eligibility requirements are available online. Residents can also contact Peoples Gas directly at  1-800-764-0111.

PGH2O

PGH2O offers many programs designed to provide financial assistance for residents who are having difficulty paying their PGH2O bill.

Lead Service Line Reimbursement Program: Based on your income level, PWSA will assist customers with the cost of privately replacing service lines that are contaminated with lead. To participate or learn more, click here.

Bill Discount Program: Those at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Line may be eligible for a 100% reduction in monthly water and wastewater conveyance charges and an 85% discount on stormwater charges.

Hardship Grant Program: Those at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Line may be eligible for a cash grant up to $300 per year.

Flexible Payment Plans: Pay based on your income level, allowing you to pay down higher balances without accruing penalties and interest
